31st ANNUAL AVALON UNDERWATER CLEANUP

A Special Dive to Cleanup Avalon Harbor

WHERE: Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island
DATE: February 25th, 2012

Roddenberry Dive Team will be teaming up with Power Scuba for the Avalon Underwater Cleanup event.

About the Annual Avalon Underwater Cleanup event:

The Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup is an annual dive event held at Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island on the Saturday following President’s Day in February. The event was started in the 1970’s by the local dive community in an effort to cleanup Avalon Harbor, and this event is the only time diving is permitted in the Harbor. Over the years, this event has grown to become one of the most publicized and popular dive events in Southern California. Many think it’s the largest dive event in the world.

Besides offering divers the opportunity to dive in Avalon Harbor, the event brings together a large number of people who share common interests – diving and Catalina Island. Last year we had over 500 divers who had a great time retrieving trash and lost items from the harbor as well as celebrating the event. There are numerous parties around town on both Friday and Saturday nights as divers revel in the warm friendly atmosphere of Catalina Island. Several dive clubs also have made this event one of their premier social events of the year.

(Power Scuba members are staying at the Seaport Village Inn. If you do too, try to get a room in the front.)

Diving:

You will need to bring your own gear and tanks. However, you can rent tanks from local dive shops, but contact them soon as demand will be high! You will need to pick up your tank prior to the dive.
