Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry

Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, Jr., carries the torch left to him by his father, the iconic and visionary Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. As the only son of Gene and Majel Barrett Roddenberry, Rod is continuing in their footsteps, seeking to make the utopian Roddenberry vision a reality. As CEO of Roddenberry Productions, Rod has returned the company to its original mission, creating thoughtful and inspiring content.

It was in the late 1990's that Rod got his first taste of the family business, serving as "Technical Advisor" on one of the last television shows to carry his father's name "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict." Rod spent four years attempting to ensure that the Roddenberry vision was respected and that the show stayed true to his father's philosophy. After returning to Los Angeles in 2001, Rod took over the famed Lincoln Enterprises, now Roddenberry Productions.
The company which had been founded by his parents in the late 1960s and had become famous for its one-of-a-kind merchandise.

Under Rod's care, a new team was put in place with a goal to expand the company's merchandising through e-commerce. Along with his good friend and business/creative partner, Trevor Roth, they began developing new projects aimed at moving the company away from merchandising and into the digital age of sci-fi media content. Together the pair have successfully developed new properties across a variety of platforms, including popular web comics, a new comic book franchise and the development of film and television projects.
Especially close to Rod's heart has been the documentary film project "Trek Nation." Born out of a desire to get to know his father after his death, "Trek Nation" is a son's quest to get to know his legendary father through the eyes of the fans that loved him. The film is set to debut sometime in 2009.

In addition to revitalizing the Roddenberry name, Rod remains an active philanthropist. In 2009, Rod announced a sizable contribution to the San Diego Wild Animal Park's "Asian Tiger Trail" Maternity Ward, a tribute to his late mother. Rod has also established a variety of scholarship funds to help support education for underprivileged children and is a major benefactor of several aquatic preservation groups.

When not working, Rod's passions turn to the oceans. Much in the same way his father explored the heavens with Star Trek, Rod has a devoted passion to exploring the great mysteries under the sea. Attempting to spread this passion, Rod established the Roddenberry Dive Team, with the mission of helping to educate, preserve and explore the oceans.

Rod currently splits his time between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Greg Martin

Executive Director

Greg Martin grew up about as far away from the ocean as you can get in a very small town in Kansas. At an early age he found a love for the deep blue sea through watching programs like Sea Hunt and the Jacques Cousteau specials. It was during high school that he had the opportunity to take a basic scuba class. It was a weekly 80 mile round trip that culminated in a basic scuba certification in the summer of 1976.

Shortly after graduating he was hired as a part-time Sunday night disc jockey at a local station. That 6-hour shift turned into over 30 years behind a microphone as a broadcaster. He has interviewed hundreds of celebrities and musicians including legendary actor Vincent Price & comedian Red Skelton. One special event featured Greg singing a duet on-stage in front of a crowd of thousands with Latin superstar, Julio Iglesias!

Greg is truly a “renaissance man.” Music, acting, writing, voice-overs, scuba diving, speaking, he has never been afraid of putting his hand to something. Along with his wife of 30 years, they created a local TV show featuring a beautiful hostess and her crusty side-kick (Greg) showing classic horror and sci-fi films. Greg has written a 3-act stage play and he continues to play keyboards and writes daily.

Scuba diving though is Greg’s one, true, passion. After over 30 years of diving he decided to become a DiveMaster, assisting with monthly classes and relishing in helping everyday people do something extraordinary. This passion for sharing his love of the oceans and diving is also leading him into the realms of scuba instructors.

He firmly believes that the oceans are the hope for the future and is ardent in his support for them. Through the Roddenberry Dive Team Greg hopes to fire the interest of a new generation of divers and ocean supporters.
