About Us
RDT is about discovery, exploration, adventure and education. In addition to a membership kit members can take part in monthly activities which may include scuba dives, educational seminars, tours, trade shows and online roundtables. Many of these functions will also include special guests from the science and science fiction background.
Red Shirt Dives will give advanced students a chance to experience once in a lifetime adventures like diving with sharks & squid.
Once a quarter, RDT members can take part in special online chats to discuss pertinent topics of interest in keeping with the overall theme of the RDT.
Members will have the opportunity to receive special scuba certifications through RDT and be given the chance to win prizes, receive special discounts and attend special functions.
All non-scuba certified members are encouraged to become certified through a qualified agency. New divers will receive a special gift from RDT.
Members taking part in RDT dive trips must meet all certification requirements.
The Roddenberry Dive Team was founded by Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry the only son of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett Roddenberry. It is Rod's love of diving, exploration and the oceans that sparked the idea of the RDT. In his own words:
"I have found the world beneath the sea to be one of the most exotic and magical places on Earth. For me, diving is a unique experience that quenches my thirst for adventure and discovery. To take a page out of Star Trek, I love exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life in our oceans. I look forward to seeing you underwater!"
Joining Rod in this commitment is the club’s Executive Director, Greg Martin. Greg is a NAUI DiveMaster and has been diving over 30 years with countless dives. His love of the oceans and exploration goes back to his childhood when at age 5 he made his first “scuba” tank out of a gourd. As with many divers, Jacques Cousteau and the TV show Sea Hunt were major influences on his becoming a diver.
“I get a special thrill seeing people’s faces when they first try scuba. I really love to teach and share my love for the incredible world of our oceans.”
RDT understands that not everyone has a desire or the ability to scuba dive, but we don't want that to stop you from joining us for an exciting adventure. The Roddenberry Dive Team is committed to the education and preservation of our oceans as well as diving so that everyone has a very important place in our group.
RDT plans Away Missions for its members to explore our oceans from an educational viewpoint including seminars, tours, etc.
Of course we would encourage you to become a certified diver and join us under the waves. When you do become a certified diver you'll receive a special gift from the RDT. If you would like more information on learning to scuba dive, please contact us.
